About the Union

Who we are

The Yemeni Students Union in Türkiye — YÖD for short — is a student body founded on 28 February 2016 to represent Yemeni students in Türkiye, advance their interests and defend their rights.

The union is a meeting point for communication and cooperation among Yemeni students in Türkiye. It strengthens the cultural and social ties between them and supports them across every field.

To be a bridge to academic, cultural and social excellence for Yemen's students in Türkiye, and to reflect a positive image of Yemeni youth.

Our mission

To offer Yemeni students comprehensive support — academic, social and cultural — by organising activities and events that strengthen the spirit of cooperation, encouraging excellence and creativity, and helping to build an aware generation able to contribute to the development of its society and its country.

Our goals

• Representing Yemeni students before official and public bodies, institutions, organisations and unions.
• Looking after students' interests, defending their rights and taking up their causes.
• Deepening the spirit of fellowship among Yemeni students in Türkiye, and their national, pan-Arab and Islamic spirit.
• Working with official bodies to secure teaching conditions suited to students' academic attainment, and to create a climate that believes in dialogue, difference and creative disagreement.
• Developing, guiding and supporting students' literary, cultural, artistic and scientific talents.

Our branches

The union has branches across dozens of Turkish cities — among them Ankara, Istanbul, Konya, Sakarya, Bursa, Izmir, Adana, Gaziantep, Kayseri and Trabzon, as well as Northern Cyprus. The full map is in the union profile.

Our services

The union accompanies a Yemeni student directly, from before they arrive in Türkiye through to graduation:

• Scholarship applications: helping applicants to Turkish scholarships, answering their questions about study, and limiting their exploitation by agency offices.
• University registration: following the registration process and the placement results, and helping students complete enrolment.
• Reception and housing: easing travel arrangements, meeting students at the airport, and coordinating with the branch in the city they are heading to.
• Emergencies and assistance: material and moral support in critical cases, relief campaigns, and coordination with the relevant authorities in a crisis.
• Legal matters: advice on residence permits and the laws around them, and guidance through the steps a case requires.

The general conference

The union renews itself through its general conference, made up of the members of the executive bodies and the oversight and evaluation committees of its branches. The conference holds free and fair elections, holds those bodies to account and assesses their performance, and gives candidates the chance to put their programmes to every member. A higher preparatory committee for elections oversees the branches' electoral processes and safeguards their integrity and transparency.
